im not a lesbian but i notice how quickly gay headcanons for men who have canonical relationships with women are explained away and given justification (which i support and do) but when you headcanon a female character who has canonically been in a relationship with a man as a lesbian, suddenly there's an issue and ppl start claiming "bi erasure" or whatever for a character who typically has 0 canonical sexual orientation. it's interesting. im sure a lesbian could give a much more comprehensive and analytical response to this but. i just think about it a lot.
#sadie adler is neither bisexual OR heterosexual just as she's not a lesbian#it's all headcanon#but ppl who get aggressive and upset when someone DARE say she's a lesbian by claiming Jake Adler urk me#let lesbians have fun#seen plenty of gay arthur hcs or gay dutch/hosea hcs and nobody leaps to say but mary or but molly/susan/annabelle or but bessie#bc we all seem to understand what a hc is#UNTIL it's a lesbian#thinky

I'm so used to being in fandoms w a primarily fujo fan base 😭😭😭 I keep trying to watch the jjk skit videos on YouTube but SO MANY of them make the characters into gross horny dudebros I hate it!! Especially when it comes to how they write Megumi like tell me how they saw a guy who literally says in canon that he only cares about the character and not the appearance of his partner and decided that they should make 20+ skits where he thirsts over *insert female character* bc she's got a fat ass??? Like who the hell is that bc it sure as hell isn't Megumi. And if you wanted a character to thirst over someone's ass Yuji is literally right there and it's passable bc at least that's a thought he voiced in canon? I think these straight guys are just projecting super hard on these characters and feel pissy about how some fans think Megumi might not be heterosexual so they gotta make sure to say how much he likes titties so no one thinks that he might like boys. They ESPECIALLY over-compensate when it comes to him and I think it's very telling.
#jjk#itafushi#vent#also they'll make so many gay jokes with Yuji but have megumi aggressively defend his heterosexuality?#i dont understand it#like yeah yuji has bisexual vibes 100% but do they actually think megumi is straight#him of all characters???

the thing is i think steven moffat is. to be totally honest. an absolutely brilliant writer and the themes he explores are ones i personally find more compelling (the doctor as a fairytale figure & the show as overt fantasy, notably). but his gender politics makes me want to screeeeeeeam
#its just this particularly irritating brand of like#whedonesque strong sexually aggressive woman wants nerd male moment#where Every Single interaction between men and women has to be Kinda Sexy#yknow?#and this is also kind of worsened by the doctor being still broadly asexual kinda#which tbh i personally think is a concession to the kind of people who got really mad about the movie kiss#with the result that it just makes alll the women he writes seem like sexed up vamps yknow?#being charitable there is a lot of really interesting stuff re amy and her desperate desire for escapism#its just marred by moffats rabid heterosexuality#caveat im watching s5 rn and i never fully watched 12&clara so im only talking about amy era

I really like that theres fanfiction of brad pitt and george clooney’s characters in ocean eleven. I have no interest in reading it but i like knowing it’s out there
#objectively both of these characters are fun and hot but i just can’t bring myself to care about them#like if they were gay for each other it’d be the most uncomfortably heterosexual and/or sexless dynamic#like to be clear those characters as concepts have an appeal but then you put the characters in the bodies of pitt and clooney and it just#loses all semblance of homoeroticism because those men are aggressively heterosexual to the point of seeming somehow neutered#and uninteresting#does anyone else know what im talking about i feel crazy#the idea of two criminals who know and rely on each other on an almost codependent level#one of which is chasing after an ex who wasn’t able to accept him and the other of which has sex with other people to fill a void probably#because he’s hopelessly pining for this ostensibly straight crime partner but then a heist forces them to confront their true feelings#as an idea that is good and interesting#but the idea of brad pitt and george clooney kissing each other on the mouth is utterly absurd and sorta macabre#kennapost

us before watching seed freedom—
me: hey you ever think about athrun going for kiras twin sister. like. they do look sorta similar. kinda gay
my bf: athrun asks her to dye her hair brown so she looks more like him
us after watching seed freedom—
me: so when kiras puts on his old clothes,
my bf: his destiny outfit, yes
me: this is like, two years after, right? so those are from two years ago?
my bf: yea thats right
me: ….so why does athrun just. have those. why does athrun have kiras old clothes. 👀
my bf: he keeps them for when he and cagali roleplay
#hi. we’re very serious about gundam all the time and also im advancing my kirathrun agenda.#mostly bc that shit gay af. like lets be real here. no heterosexual explanation for that fence scene.#i was actually mad ghe first time i watched that bc seed is like aggressively het and then it hits you with a full minute of homoerotic long#-ing. set to see-saw with thematically appropriate lyrics. how could i possibly interpret that differently.

Have you ever read the Kushiel’s Dart series? I recently rediscovered it while doing a bookshelf purge and boy, that was a wild series for classic romance. I think that was my first introduction to the concept of kink as a baby romance/fantasy reader. Some of it was well executed, some of it was absolutely not, and I’m sure hasn’t aged particularly well. But it definitely left an impression, and guided my taste in romance. If you enjoyed doctrine of labyrinths, it may be worth a peek just for the novelty of it all.
I have, and honestly it felt kind of outdated when I first started reading it like over a decade ago.
I think because it's so aggressively heterosexual (compared to everything I read these days), it wasn't my thing when I started reading it, and it's just become more and more not my thing over time.
However, the Kushiel's series did shape a lot of folk's understanding of themselves and their wants in relationship to kink, and it's been really fundamental for so many people, so I can understand in that sense why it's such a beloved series. The concept is also pretty interesting, and I thought the world-building was cool too, though I don't remember any of it, lol. I never got through the second book though, after the first I realised that I didn't find it personally gripping enough to keep going.
But like I said, it's aggressively heterosexual, and generally speaking if I have a choice, I never read heterosexual content and try to avoid it, and that very much impacts my enjoyment of these sorts of stories!
Tbh I wouldn't compare Kushiel's Dart and Doctrine of Labyrinths at all, personally. If someone recced DOL to me based off Kushiel's Dart I not only wouldn't read it, I'd probably go out of my way to avoid it. x.x I'm sorry anon, one of the reasons I encourage people not to really send me recs is that I am an extremely particular reader / watcher / viewer etc. and folks are more likely to hear how much I don't love something rather than how much I do.
(I really wouldn't be writing if I wasn't so picky, lol)
(To everyone else who loves or has nostalgia for this series, that's awesome and don't listen to me lol I love the Black Jewels trilogy sdalkfjdsa I can't talk)
#asks and answers#personal#i can't really tag this with anything else#not even inadvertent recs#i don't think i'd recommend that series to anyone anymore#unless they had a specific interest in niche epic fantasy#with very mild kink / sadomasochism elements#that was aggressively heterosexual#tbh i would never link DOL and Kushiel's personally#but i can see how another person would!#literally would not be a writer if it weren't for the fact that i'm fussy#and can never find what i want to read dsfalkfjas

persona 3 is fun but it's so aggressively heterosexual it's making me sick
#persona 4 and 5 have the same aggressively heterosexual vibes but i haven't and most likely will not be playing them#like it's not just a regular lack of queerness#it is such an extreme case of heteronormativity#that it feels homophobic

RE: Idea of You
I don't think those people can be reasoned with. They're so set in their ways that they'll argue and spout those nonsense ad nauseam esp. since they also surround themselves with people who have the same opinions so it's all just one vast echo chamber.
The worst I've seen is that apparently Anne and Nick are promoting grooming which is like??? Whaat???? 🙄😒. But on the other hand I've also seen lots of people hyped for it so hopefully Anne and Nick can enjoy their success.
Fully agree! They are definitely in an echo chamber and I don’t think anything anyone says to them can pierce that because his stans are so devoted. I think the word “inspired” is doing a lot of heavy lifting here but the character Nick is playing is INSPIRED by a Harry Styles-type pop star and not meant to be a re-creation of real events or a real person. But I don’t think they’re ready to hear that lol.
Yes I think purity culture as well as severe individualism are at play here. People see age difference and immediately assume it’s problematic and start throwing around terms like “grooming” with zero understanding of what they mean. Also, personally I don’t really have an issue with the age difference in TIOY but it’s also totally okay if people don’t like the age difference thing! I think the disconnect comes in where people can’t differentiate between not personally liking something and it being actually harmful and problematic!
#personally I am hesitant about TIOY because it looks aggressively heterosexual but#the difference is I understand that is a me problem lol#text post#my posts#nicholas galitzine
